Company gets its exemption
A Concord, N.C., motorsports development company received its much sought-after noise ordinance exemption from Cherokee County Council on Monday.
The motorsports development company known as 2Driven requested the ordinance for its $25 million Racers Paradise project, which includes two world-class road courses, a skid pad and training areas, motocross and ATV trails, cart trails and drag strip.
2Driven officials claimed it was unclear if the project was exempted from the county’s noise ordinance.
Now there is is no doubt. According to the ordinance passed unanimously on first reading, the project is exempted from the noise ordinance as long as the race track noise falls below 105 decibels.
The exemption can be modified or revoked if 2Driven fails to complete the entire proposed $25 million project as well as create 50 jobs within five years.
The developers hope to attract three national events, including an AMA motorcycle race, a Daytona prototype race and an off-course road motorcycle race. Each event is expected to attract between 20,000 and 40,000 fans, according to the developers, who would pay for the $25 million facility by selling memberships to its “Drivers’ Club,” which would grant virtually unlimited access to every area of the facility.
If enough investors sign on, the developers, who have a 1-year option on the land, hope to begin the project next year.
