Benefit

 A benefit for Richard Massey will be held Saturday, June 12. All types of vehicles are invited to enter the poker run that starts at C&C Thunder and ends at SUDS. The best hand receives $400 while the worst hand gets $100. Tickets are $10 for single; $20 for couple. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. with the ride getting underway at noon. All proceeds will go to Massey's family. For more information, call 864-491-3000.

Job-finding help

 A career specialist will be at the Cherokee County libraries June 10 and June 23 to provide basic information to help find a job. No registration is required. The career specialist will be at the Blacksburg library on Thursday, June 10, from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (864- 839-2630) and at the Gaffney library on Wednesday, June 23, from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (864-487-2711).

Concert

 The Cherokee County Public Library will host guitarist Dorian Michael in a free Music Sandwiched-In concert on Wednesday, June 9, from 12:15-1 p.m. He performs a wide variety of original and traditional tunes. The Friends of the Library will serve a free lunch.

Meeting

 The Cherokee County Branch of the NAACP will meet Tuesday, June 8, at 7:30 p.m. at Westside Full Gospel Church.

Pool open

 Irene Municipal Pool, located at 302 W. Montgomery St., will open today for the summer. The pool's weekly schedule is Monday-Saturday, 1:30-4:50 p.m. Entry fee is $2. Organizational groups of 12 or more with an adult supervisor may swim for $1. The pool may be rented for private use before or after regular hours for $50 per hour. Persons interested in beginner swim, junior lifeguarding, or lifeguarding classes should contact Boyd Meetze at 487-2736 during pool hours.
