(Ledger photo / TIM GULLA) A Gaffney man had to be taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center on Thursday afternoon after his motorcycle crashed into the side of a van attempting a Uturn on Highway 329.

According to Trooper Billy Elder of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Bradley Peeler, 34, of North Logan Street, was driving south at 2:23 p.m. on a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle when a van that also had been headed south attempted a Uturn and entered the motorcycle’s path.

James William Skinner, 49, of St. Luke Church Road, Kings Mountain, N.C., the driver of a 1997 Chevrolet van involved in the collision, was cited for making an improper turn, according to Elder.

Members of DMW Volunteer Fire Department, along with paramedics from Upstate Carolina Medical Center, responded to the crash. Glass from the side windows of the van, which shattered during the impact, had to be swept from the roadway.

Peeler was in fair condition at Spartanburg Regional as of 5:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a hospital spokesman.

Elder said Peeler was not wearing a helmet. Skinner was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
