Fund raisers
A church yard sale, bake sale and car wash will be held Saturday, June 12, beginning at 7 a.m. and continuing until 12 p.m. at Heritage Christian School, 4279 Cherokee Ave. (Hwy. 29).
Dover Baptist Church will have a church-wide yard sale Saturday, June 12, in its fellowship hall beginning at 7 a.m. Ham, sausage and livermush biscuits will be sold along with coffee and soft drinks. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of food for the children and adults who will attend Vacation Bible School.
A hot dog sale, bake sale and breakfast buffet will be held Saturday, June 12 in Family Life Center at Central Baptist Church. Breakfast will be served from 7-10:30 a.m. A hot dog and bake sale begins at 11 a.m. The breakfast buffet costs $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Hot dog plate are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
Rock Springs Baptist Church, 1184 Rock Springs Road, Blacksburg, will have a pancake breakfast Saturday, June 12, beginning at 8 a.m. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, eggs, biscuits, coffee, juice and milk. Donations accepted. For more information, call 864-839-2496 or 704-487- 7014.
Kings Creek Church of God will have a yard sale in the Colonial Fish Camp parking lot in Gaffney on Saturday, June 12, beginning at 6 a.m. Hot dog plates and a bake sale will begin at 10:30 a.m. Ice cold water or sodas will be available. Hot dog plates include two hot dogs, chips, dessert and a drink for $6. Single hot dogs are also available.
Tabernacle of Love, 737 Cherokee Falls Road, will have a yard sale Saturday, June 12, beginning at 8 a.m. at the church.
Church news
Homecoming will be held Sunday, June 13, at Rock Springs Baptist Church, 1184 Rock Springs Road, Blacksburg. Morning worship begins at 11 with the Rev. Norman Philbeck leading the service. A covered dish meal will follow.
Mikes Creek Missionary Baptist Church will honor its 2010 graduates from 4K through college during morning worship services on Sunday, June 13. The graduates will be in charge of the service.
The Mt. Olive Baptist Church family will celebrate the eighth anniversary of pastor Rev. Clarence J. Davis on Sunday, June 13, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Walter Wilson, pastor of Focus Missionary Baptist Church, Shelby, will be the speaker.
White Plains Baptist Church will have its annual Women's Day program on Sunday, June 13, during the morning services. Minister Geraldine Graham, associate minister of Philadelphia Baptist Church, will be the speaker.
The Men of Stone Ministry of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will have a program Sunday, June 13, at 3 p.m. The theme is "Kingdom Discipleship." Speaker will be the Rev. A. Sherman Davis, pastor of New Trinity Christian Fellowship Ministry, Gaffney.
The Youth Ministry of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will have its annual youth revival June 21-23 at 7 p.m. Speaker will be the Rev. Sean Dogan, pastor of Long Branch Baptist Church, Greenville.
Father's Day will be celebrated during morning worship Sunday, June 20, at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 154 Roundtree Road.
The All Male Chorus of Island Creek Baptist Church, 2112 Battleground Road, Cowpens, will celebrate its anniversary Sunday, June 13, at 5 p.m. with a singing program. Various choirs and groups from the surrounding area will be on the program.
A youth revival will be held June 11-12 at 7 p.m. and June 13 at 4 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, 300 Serene Drive. June 11 is Praise and Worship Night; Pastor Mark Hazel will be the speaker June 12 and Minister Pierre Salmon of Mikes Creek Baptist will be the speaker June 13.
The Women's Ministry of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will have its fifth annual women's conference June 25-27. Everyone invited. The theme is "Praise is a Family Affair" and the schedule includes: Friday, June 25, 6 p.m, Minister Teresa Black of New Salem Zion Baptist, Pacolet; Saturday, June 26, 9 a.m., Pastor Caroline Jones, Greater Hope Church, Gaffney (breakfast will be served); Sunday, June 27, 3 p.m., Minister Audrey Hailstock, New Day Baptist, Spartanburg (dinner will be served). Door prizes will be awarded.
Nazareth Baptist Church, 1156 Ninety Nine Island Road, Blacksburg, will have homecoming services on Sunday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m. Back on Track with Chris McDaniel will be special guests. Chris spent more than 15 years as a member of the country music group Confederate Railroad.
The Metropolitan AME Zion Missionary Department will sponsor a prostate and colon cancer awareness health day on Sunday, June 13, at 11:15. Delisa Dawkins, outreach coordinator with the Gibbs Cancer Center, will be the speaker. Pastor Ronnie Meeks encourages men to come, but welcomes everyone.
Indian Hill Baptist Church, 135 Leadmine St., will celebrate Pastor Mary Jefferies' 19th anniversary on Sunday, June 13, at 10 a.m. Everyone invited. Speakers will be the ministers of the church.
Meeting The GOP Woman's Club will meet Monday, June 14, at 6 p.m. at Santiago's on Floyd Baker Boulevard. A business session is planned and there will be no guest speaker. All members are urged to be present and visitors are welcome.
Bible schools
Vacation Bible School will be held June 14-16 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Gowdyesville Baptist Church. The theme is "Evangelizing the Community With Your Spiritual Gifts." The public is invited to attend.
Vacation Bible School will be held June 15-18 at Sardis United Methodist church in the McKowns Mountain community. Classes will be held from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. The theme is "Galactic Blast," focusing on a cosmic adventure praising God.
PWP dance
Parents Without Partners will have a beach blast dance Saturday, June 12. Music will be provided by Crimson Rose in the ballroom of VFW Post 9539, 325 Carolina Drive Ext., Spartanburg. A social time begins at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish dinner at 7. All attending should bring a covered dish to share. Beverages provided. Dancing will be from 8-11 p.m. Cost is $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Singles, remarried, former members and singles groups are welcome. Reunions
The Granard HIgh School Mass Class Reunion for 1922-1968 will be held July 2-4 in Gaffney with the following activities: Friday, July 2, 8 p.m., a getacquainted/ social hour will be held in the Family Life Center on Shelby Highway; Saturday, July 3, noon, a picnic will be held at Lake Whelchel; Saturday, July 3, 8 p.m., at the Hampton Inn, Coach Willie Jefferies, Coach J.E. Webb, Coach Hayward Reid, H.C. Gardin and H.G. Simpson will be honored; Sunday, July 4, a worship service will be held in Granard Middle School Auditorium at 11 a.m. with dinner following in the cafeteria. Gospel singing
A gospel singing benefiting the Good Shepherd's Children's Home will be held Saturday, June 12, at Granard Middle School Simpson Auditorium. On the program will be the Joylites of Gaffney, the Southland Troubadours, The Harris Brothers, Jack Browning, the Silver Trumpets and others from Georgia and the surrounding area. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. and the program starts at 4:30. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children.
Benefit
A benefit for Richard Massey will be held Saturday, June 12. All types of vehicles are invited to enter the poker run that starts at C&C Thunder and ends at Suds. The best hand receives $400 while the worst hand gets $100. Tickets are $10 for single; $20 for couple. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. with the ride getting underway at noon. Fund raiser
A “Pancakes 4 Pops” fundraising breakfast will be held Saturday, June 19, from 8-10 a.m. at Applebee’s Bar & Grill, 1512 W. Floyd Baker Blvd. Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased in advance by calling 489-9939. Options Medical/Cherokee Pregnancy Center is sponsoring the “Celebrating Life and Fathers” event and all profits will support the center in reaching out to young women and their families that are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.
Job-finding help
A career specialist will be at the Cherokee County in Gaffney on Wednesday, June 23, from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. to provide basic information to help find a job. No registration is required. For more information, call 864-487-2711.
