Man accused of attempted murder in shooting incident
The Gaffney Police Department has charged a 29-year-old Old Georgia Highway man with attempted murder in connection with a Friday morning incident in which a gunshot was fired into a home on Wilkinsville Highway, striking a man in the leg.
According to police, the shooting occurred at about 6 a.m. when a 35-yearold resident of 409 Wilkinsville Highway heard several “soft pops” while he was standing in his bathroom.
The man then felt pain in his upper right leg and noticed a hole in his leg.
Det. Brian Blanton of the Gaffney Police Department, who investigated the case, said the shot that struck the man came from the exterior of the home.
The victim told police that he had been arguing with another man, Chris Joe Cody, for several days and Blanton said that investigators traveled to a work site in Gastonia, N.C., to speak with Cody. In Gastonia, police allegedly found a gun and shells inside Cody’s vehicle.
Blanton said Cody was escorted back to Gaffney, where he was placed under arrest.
The shooting victim was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle following the shooting and police were called to the hospital, Blanton said.
