Peach Festival to hold events at Big Mill site

There will be big doings at the Big Mill site in July.

Cherokee County Council on Monday unanimously approved lease agreement with the South Carolina Peach Festival to hold events on the site.

But there were some strings attached.

Councilman Charles Mathis said he wanted assurances there would be no alterations to the property, which is the future site of a park and the proposed county government center.

In addition, the festival is barred from using the former guard house and removing any trees on the property.

Council also discussed a festival request for some county rollout carts on the property. No determination was made on the request, but councilman Quay Little, who serves on the Peach Festival board, said the festival has pledged to return the site to the condition it was prior to the events.
