Farmers' Market
The Blacksburg Farmers' Market will open Thursday, June 17. Hours will be from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., located across from the Fire Department. The Blacksburg Business Association sponsored event will be held every Thursday throughout the summer until after Thanksgiving. For more information, call 839-6006 or 839-9783.
Fund raisers
Gaffney High volleyball team will have a car wash Saturday, June 19, from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. O'Reilly Autoparts, 630 W. Floyd Baker Blvd. Come out and show your support for the Gaffney High volleyball players. The car wash is sponsored by O'Reilly Autoparts.
A “Pancakes 4 Pops” fundraising breakfast will be held Saturday, June 19, from 8-10 a.m. at Applebee’s Bar & Grill, 1512 W. Floyd Baker Blvd. Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased in advance by calling 489-9939.
Church news
Shady Grove Baptist Church will observe Father’s Day on Sunday, June 20, at 11 a.m. The trustees of the church will be in charge of the program. Special recognitions will be made, including the oldest father, father with the most children in church that Sunday, and the father traveling the farthest distance to church. The All-Male Choir will sing and the pastor will deliver the message. The women of the church will prepare a Father’s Day lunch for the men.
Father’s Day will be observed Sunday, June 20, at 11 a.m. at Greater Hope Ministries, 1320 Old Georgia Hwy. Speaker will be the Rev. Donnie Allen, associate minister of Suck Creek Baptist Church.
White Plains Baptist Church, 206 Soap Stone Road, will have a Fun Day kick off for VBS on Saturday, June 19, from 5-7 p.m. There will be crafts, prizes, games and food. VBS will be held June 21-25 from 6-8:30 p.m.
Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 E. Cherokee St., will have a third Saturday night singing June 19 at 7 p.m. Guests will be In His Glory, Singing Grace and The Hamptons.
The Youth Ministry of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will have its annual youth revival June 21-23 at 7 p.m. Speaker will be the Rev. Sean Dogan, pastor of Long Branch Baptist Church, Greenville.
Father’s Day will be celebrated during morning worship Sunday, June 20, at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 154 Roundtree Road.
The Vinnie Byers Missionary Circle of Bethel Baptist Church will sponsor a prayer breakfast on Saturday, June 19, at 9 a.m. in the church dining hall. The speaker for the event will be Cathy Neal, associate minister of Bethel Baptist Church.
A donation of $5 will be accepted.
Antioch Baptist Church will present its 2010 Couples Retreat June 19 at Broad River Electric Auditorium, 811 Hamrick St. Participants should expect Christian fellowship, food and fun, all as a way to learn how to live in love and unity as God desires and instructs.
Single and married couples are welcome to attend. The price for the event is $25 in advance per couple and $30 at the door. A dinner of steak, baked potato, tossed salad, tea and cheesecake will be served.
All fathers will be recognized at Indian Hill Baptist Church during the 10 a.m. service. Guest speaker for the occasion will be Michael Williamson of Saint Peter Baptist Church of Grover, N.C.
The Samaritan Women's Ministry of the Hopewell Christian Fellowship Ministries invites the public to a special Father's Appreciation Service on Sunday, June 20, during the 9 a.m. morning worship service. The women will be in charge of services and the message will be delivered by Elder Anita Corry.
Vicar Emily Edenfield of Circle of Grace Lutheran Church will hold Bible study at 10 a.m. on June 23 inside McDonald's on Floyd Baker Boulevard. The public is invited to join in the continuing study on the book of Romans.
Nazareth Baptist Church, 1156 Ninety Nine Island Road, Blacksburg, will have homecoming services on Sunday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m. Back on Track with Chris McDaniel will be special guests. Chris spent more than 15 years as a member of the country music group Confederate Railroad.
The Women’s Ministry of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will have its fifth annual women’s conference June 25-27. Everyone invited. The theme is “Praise is a Family Affair” and the schedule includes: Friday, June 25, 6 p.m, Minister Teresa Black of New Salem Zion Baptist, Pacolet; Saturday, June 26, 9 a.m., Pastor Caroline Jones, Greater Hope Church, Gaffney (breakfast will be served); Sunday, June 27, 3 p.m., Minister Audrey Hailstock, New Day Baptist, Spartanburg (dinner will be served). Door prizes will be awarded.
Bible school
Mikes Creek Missionary Baptist Church will hold its Vacation Bible School starting June 21 and continuing through June 24 from 6- 8 p m. Everyone invited.
4th of July
events
Hopewell Baptist Church, 511 Old Chester Road, Blacksburg, will have its annual July 4th celebration on Saturday July 3, from 7pm until 9:30 p.m. (rain make-up date Saturday, July 10). Free hot dogs will be served as long as they last form 7-8 p.m. and a blow-up bounce house will be available for kids. Games including ring toss, tic tac toss, lollipop tree, fishing games, lucky duck, corn hole, basketball shot, football toss with prizes. A gospel sinigng will be held form 7-9 p.m. with fireworks set to end the festivities at 9 p.m.
All are welcome to attend.
