Post 109 starter Ryan Westbrook allowed five hits in 7-plus innings in a 8- 2 win over league leading Greer on Saturday. Post 109 received a reminder of the realities of baseball this past weekend: One day you’re up, the next you’re down.

Post 109 split a pair of games, losing to Spartanburg 9-2 on Friday before bouncing back 24 hours later with an 8-2 win over Greer.

Saturday’s victory moves Post 109 within a game of league-leading Greer.

“It was good to get the win after a tough loss,” Post 109 manager Zach Clary said.

Ryan Westbrook, the workhorse of the staff, ate up more innings and kept the bullpen well rested, going 7 1/3 innings. He allowed just five hits and struck out three.

He also helped his own cause with a 2-run blast in the first inning. After his blast, Post 109 got two more runs in the inning on Michael Hughey’s twoout double and RBI singles by Jordan Garrett and Bobby Jackson.

Gaffney tacked on two more runs in the second on back-to-back singles by Lee Gerwick and Ryan Westbrook, a sac fly by Spencer Epps and an RBI single off the bat of Bubba Wright.

Garrett finished up for Westbrook, striking out three in 1 2/3 innings of work.

Will Raines, who was inserted into the starting lineup a couple of games ago, produced again with a double that scored Jackson in the third.

Gaffney didn’t score again until the eighth when Raines advanced Jackson on a sac bunt and Lee Gerwick drove him in.

At Duncan Park, Spartanburg jumped on Post 109 starter Kaleb Earls for five runs in the first and never looked back. Post 109’s only runs came on a second-inning home run by Garrett and Wright’s RBI groundout in the seventh.

After five straight games on the road, Post 109 returns to Commissioners Field today for a game against Union. Post 109 is back at home tomorrow against Greer.
