Newsmaker: Indians drop pair
Quinshad Davis
It’s big news when the defending Class 4A state champion Gaffney High basketball team loses a game.
Even when it’s just a summer shootout game.
A shorthanded Indian team dropped two games at the Spartanburg Christian Shootout.
Playing with only eight guys, the Gaffney A team, made up of varsity players, lost to Irmo and Wren. The Indians did beat Spartanburg, Chapman, Landrum and Dorman.
Gaffney played with just two post players, Quinshad Davis and L.J. Peak.
Gaffney head coach Mark Huff said he was pleased with the team’s outside shooting.
Gaffney’s B team, made up of rising juniors and sophomores, finished with a 4-3 record. The big shot of the shootout was made by a Fort Mill player who sank a halfcourt heave at the buzzer to beat the Gaffney B team, which had just tied the game seconds earlier.
