Cowpens National Battlefield celebration on July 3 features history, fireworks and fun
Local reenactors will set up a soldiers’ camp and give weapons firing demonstrations at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Additional battlefield walks and programs will begin at the Visitor Center at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The Visitor Center will be open from 9 a.m. until 8:45 p.m.
On the lawn behind the Visitor Center, the 246th Army National Guard Band will play patriotic music from 7:30-9 p.m. leading up to the fireworks show. Family activities from 6:45-8:45 p.m. will include playing Colonial-era children’s games, writing with a quill pen and listening to stories of the Revolution.
Those attending are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy the afternoon with family and friends. There will be no food available in the park. While supplies last, water and soft drinks may be purchased at the Visitor Center.
Park regulations prohibit personal fireworks, sparklers, chem-lights, etc. For visitors’ safety, the Macedonia Fire Department will close the battlefield area at 5:30 p.m.
In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks display will be rescheduled for Monday, July 5.
