Patriotic cart parade back on schedule
Decked out in patriotic finery, a golf cart sits ready before the Sheraton Loop Fourth of July Golf Cart Parade was cancelled last year. More than 25 carts are expected to be driven by neighborhood residents in this year's parade on Saturday, July 3, at 10 a.m.
An Army tank and a golf cart decked out in the colors of the American flag sat empty when last summer’s serial killings put the damper on a neighborhood Fourth of July celebration in Sheraton Loop.
After a year’s hiatus, life returns to normal for Sheraton Loop residents with a couple of “snappy” golf cart prizes and a 10th anniversary golf cart parade to mark the nation’s Independence Day.
More than 25 golf carts will make up the lineup for the parade on Saturday, July 3, at 10 a.m. in Sheraton Loop. The neighborhood is located on the left just past the Cherokee National Golf and Recreation Club.
Residents in the Gaffney neighborhood are busy putting their final touches on their golf carts for the Fourth of July holiday event.
“It has become a tradition as most everyone spends several hours decorating their cart in a patriotic theme for the parade that takes participants three laps around the 3/4 mile Sheraton Loop,” parade organizer Lisa Mullinax said. “The carts will be judged and certificates awarded for first and second place for best decorated.”
Snappy Golf Cart & Accessories in Gaffney has provided a $100 gift certificate for this year’s winning entry, according to Mullinax. The second-place winner will receive a $50 gift certificate.
Community members are invited to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to watch the golf cart parade around Sheraton Loop.
