Post 109 jrs. eliminated by York in state playoffs
Post 109 shortstop Colton Grant, taking a throw during an earlier game, had three hits in a loss to York.
Once again, the Post 109 juniors were bitten by the big inning. This time, it ended their season.
Post 109 blew a 6-1 lead as York scored four times in the bottom of the fourth inning to get back into the game before eventually taking a 10-8 victory to advance to the state tournament. The loss comes on the heels of a 19-9 meltdown at Lancaster on Wednesday.
Post 109 ends its season with a 10- 8 record. As in the case with most of its losses, Post 109 just couldn’t hold down the opposition.
“We just gave up too many big innings,” Post 109 manager Aaron Epps said.
But Epps said he appreciated his team’s attitude.
“We battled to the end no matter what the score was,” he said.
Corey Bennett and Colton Grant each each had three hits to lead Post 109 against York.
Jake Arthur started and went three innings before giving way to Colby Hill.
Hill got the start for Post 109 but didn’t last long at Lancaster. He was replaced by Grayson Goforth after 1 1/3 innings. Will Byars finished up for Post 109, which trailed by as many as 12 runs before rallying with a six-run inning to pull within 15-9.
Reserves Tyler Moss and Aaron White sparked the rally. But it wasn’t enough as Lancaster responded immediately with a couple of runs.
“Every time we had a big inning, we let them have a big inning,” Epps said.
