VENICE
There is no city in the world like Venice. Its streets are canals. All transportation is by boat or foot. And it's two cities in one. Tourists crowd the shop-lined alleyways and attractions such as St. Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace (above right), and the Rialto Bridge for views of the Grand Canal (above). Once one wanders away from the crowds, Venice turns into a peaceful, idyllic village with incredible scenes of tiny canals and the bridges that span them (above left and right). See Cody Sossamon's column on Page 4A for the story behind these pictures and look for many more in coming issues of The Gaffney Ledger.
