Miss Davis, Mr. Williams wed May 15

MRS. GOVIE LEE WILLIAMS II (SHARON ELIZABETH DAVIS) MRS. GOVIE LEE WILLIAMS II (SHARON ELIZABETH DAVIS) Sharon Elizabeth Davis and Govie Lee Williams II were married Saturday, May 15, 2010, at 5:30 p.m. in a lakeside ceremony at The Acanthus in Lyman. The Rev. James R. McGee performed the double ring ceremony.

A reception was held immediately afterward on the lawn of the estate. Music for dancing was provided by John Johnson at Lifetime Entertainment, and a lavish catered meal was enjoyed by the guests.

The bride wore a designer gown of diamond white Ritz dupion silk. The strapless fitted A-line gown featured romantic corset back that flowed into a modified chapel train. The gently ruched bodice was adorned with lace motifs delicately sprinkled with crystal embellishment. Her diaphanous elbow-length veil of silk illusion was edged in hand-sewn crystals and pearls. She wore an heirloom diamond necklace, a wedding gift from the groom, which was fashioned from a diamond that belonged to his paternal grandmother. The bride carried a nosegay of pastel pink and white roses, calla lilies and hydrangeas wrapped with silk ribbon.

Kristen Davis Crooks of Seneca attended her sister as matron of honor. She and the bridesmaids wore strapless gowns of black chiffon and carried pink and white nosegays similar to that of the bride.

The bridesmaids were Kiri Denise Shehan, cousin of the bride, of Gaffney; Ashley Williams Benton, sister of the groom, of Greenville; and Kristin Fulkerson Gagliardi of Prosperity. The bridesmaids wore delicate crystal and onyx earrings and necklaces that were gifts from the bride.

Honorary bridesmaids were Holly McAbee Lipscomb of Gaffney, Kristie Marie Campbell of Simpsonville and Haley Dunn Payne of West Columbia.

The groom was attended by his father, Govie LaVerne Williams Jr. of Norway, S.C., as best man. Groomsmen included Trevor Jackson Benton, brother-in-law of the groom, of Greenville; Joshua Keith Ridley and Kristopher Layne Mitchell, both of Lexington. Ushers were Bragg Martin Williams Jr., cousin of the groom, of Norway; Boss Martin Ramsey, step-brother of the bride, of Gaffney and Jacob Sterling Crooks, brother in-law of the bride, of Seneca.

Mrs. Williams is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Lemuel Ramsey of Gaffney and the late Jimmy Ray Davis. She is the granddaughter of Azalea Davis of Gaffney and the late Dever Davis; Margie Allison of Gaffney and the late Bobby Allison. She is also the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Galvin who lived in Charlotte, N.C. A graduate of Gaffney High School, she is a summa cum laude graduate of Clemson University and holds a Master's degree in reading and literacy from Walden University. The bride is a second grade teacher in the Anderson One School District.

Mr. Williams is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Govie LaVerne Williams Jr. of Norway. He is the grandson of Grace Barton of Aiken and the late James C. Barton and the late Mr. and Mrs. Govie LaVerne Williams Sr., who lived in Norway. A graduate of Orangeburg Preparatory School, he is a cum laude graduate of Clemson University and is a specialty pharmaceutical representative for Lilly USA, LLC.

After honeymooning in St. Lucia in the Virgin Islands, the newlyweds are residing in Piedmont.

A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents on Friday, May 14, at Justin's Steakhouse in Greenville.

* * * The bride and groom were honored with a number of social events prior to their marriage.

On Feb. 7, the bride-to-be was honored with a miscellaneous shower hosted by Kristie Campbell, Michelle Coleman and Andrea Alberson at the home of Mrs. Campbell in Simpsonville.

On March 6, the couple was honored with a kitchen shower and dinner hosted by Barbara Poole, Charles and Brenda Bair and David and Louisa Williamson at the home of Mrs. Poole in Wagener.

On March 14, the brideelect was again honored with a miscellaneous shower hosted by Kristen Crooks, Nancy Fowler, Kristin Gagliardi, Teecy Littlejohn and Kiri Shehan at the Shehan home in Gaffney.

On March 24, Miss Davis' school faculty hosted a shower for her.

On March 27, the couple was honored with a River House cookout hosted by Thomas and Celia Richardson, Justin and Caroline Shorter, Joe and Pat Binnicker and Joey and Meree Williamson in Bamberg.

On April 17, the couple was honored with a miscellaneous shower and dinner hosted by Bragg and Salley Williams, Susan and Robert Young, Sandra Borgstedt, Kaye Borgstedt, Michael and Lacey Borgstedt and Jimmy Williams at the home of Bragg and Salley Williams in Norway.

On May 1, Miss Davis was given a bachelorette party organized by Kristen Crooks. Mr. Williams was given a bachelor party by Govis LaVerne Williams Jr.

Bracky Williams and Steve Williams hosted a groomsmen's luncheon on May 15.

Ashley Benton provided brunch at The Acanthus for the bride-to-be, the bridesmaids, family and friends.
