Newberry Opera House announces star-studded lineup for 2010-2011 season
NEWBERRY – The Newberry Opera House has announced a new season of stars for 2010-2011 and it is a grand mixture of country, pop, Broadway, beach, bluegrass and more.
September begins with Nanci Griffith, new bluegrass duo Joey and Rory, and popular legend Christopher Cross, whose “Sailing” practically defined a generation.
October begins with Oktoberfest and a Beerfest. Maurice Williams and friends return. Richard Marx, whose “Hold on to the Night” and “Right Here Waiting for You” have been chart-toppers, will be a first time visitor to the Opera House. Belly Dance Superstars and their new production, “Bombay Bellywood,” are featured. The legendary Earl Scruggs will perform two shows. The new Broadway musical based on the works of George and Ira Gershwin “S’Wonderful” will be in Newberry for four shows.
The Capitol Steps will take apart today’s new stories on October 20, just before the elections. Newgrass favorites the Grascals will play as will the gifted classical pianist Pawel Chencinski, who presents an all- Chopin recital. Rounding out the month will be a visit by the Redneck Tenors for two performances. The 30-voice Moscow Chorus will perform and the true classic Rogers and Hammerstein musical, “Oklahoma,” – like the wind – will come blowing down I-26.
November brings in Lorrie Morgan, Edwin McCain, the French Chamber Orchestra, bluegrass favorites Daily and Vincent, the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors, Robert Earl Keen and the Mighty Clouds of Joy. Fresh from his “Dancing with the Stars” appearance, Spanish guitar master take the Opera House stage and the PBS phenomenon, 4Troops, will also appear.
Superstar Michael Bolton will perform in Newbery in January. Ray Price, Doc Watson and David Holt, along with Ronnie McDowell and the Elvis musical “All Shook Up” are part of January’s great line-up
Returning favorites include the Lettermen, the Oak Ridge Boys, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Rick Alvti and Eddie Miles.
