Sherard Sophronia “Shell” Cagle Smith

Mrs. Sherard “Shell” Cagle Smith, 89, of Gaffney, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at the Wallace Thompson Hospital in Union.

Mrs. Smith was born in Gaffney, the wife of the late Jack Smith and was the daughter of the late Travis James Cagle and the late Catherine Roy Pennington Cagle. She was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church in Gaffney.

She is survived by one brother, Travis James Cagle, Jr. of the home; two nieces, Lawn Denise Evans Walters of West Virginia and Roye Evans Joelson of New York; and two cousins, Janelle Jones Winsten of Gaffney and Sherard Daun Reidinger of Burwyn Heights, Md.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Salina Smith; a sister, Madeline Cagle Evans; and a brother, Victor Widdenhouse Cagle.

A memorial service for Mrs. Smith will be held Monday, July 19, at 3 p.m. in the Shuford Hatcher Funeral Chapel at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by Dr. Bobby Morrow. Visitation will follow the service in the chapel.
