Meals on Wheels’ second annual benefit luau set Aug. 28 at Broad River Electric Auditorium

Do you have the mid summer blues? If so, shake them off at Meals on Wheels' second annual benefit luau on Saturday, Aug. 28, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Broad River Electric Auditorium. "Blax Station" will provide music for dancing the night away.

As a special treat, Whitney Bowe will offer free line dance lessons from 7-8 p.m. Whitney and her husband, Bill, live in Rutherfordton, N.C. She has been line dancing for almost five years and teaches line dance at the Wagon Wheel near Rutherfordton. She also teaches a class at the Senior Center in Shelby.

"Meals on Wheels is excited that Whitney will be joining us at the luau. She will begin the free line dance class prior to the buffet and dance. We extend a very heartfelt thanks to Whitney for helping us with our pledge to end senior hunger by 2020," said Terry Dennis, Cherokee County Meals on Wheels' executive director.

Along with heavy hors d’oeuvres, door prizes will be given away throughout the evening.

Table reservations are $200. Admission is $45 a couple or $25 per person. Tickets may be purchased at Meals on Wheels, 403 W. Montgomery St., (864-487-2730), or at the organization's website, cherokeecountymow.org, by Paypal.
