There’s a Ford in Limestone’s future

STAFF REPORTS

The Limestone College men’s basketball team continues to build off of a strong campaign a year ago with the addition of junior college standout Ashton Ford for the 2010- 11 season.

“Ashton is a great recruit for us and is a great fit for how we play” said head men’s basketball coach Brandon Scott. “He is very athletic, plays extremely hard, has long arms and shoots the cover off the basketball. I am very excited to see how he is able to impact our team and I think he is going to give us tremendous depth at the guard position”.

A 5-10 guard, Ford joins the Saints as a transfer from Louisburg College, where he was a two-year starter for coach John Meeks and helped fuel one of the highest scoring junior college teams in the nation.

This past season he was a key member of the seventh highest scoring team in the country as the Hurricanes averaged 89.7 points per game and made their first ever appearance in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.

Louisburg advanced to the Elite 8 with a win over Grand Rapids before falling to No. 2 Kirkwood Community College to finish the season with a 28-6 record.

On the year, Ford drilled 94 three-pointers while averaging 12.0 points per game and earned a Region X First- Team selection.

A native of Concord, N.C., the sharpshooting guard played his high school basketball at Central Cabarrus where he earned All-Conference and First-Team Cabarrus County honors following his senior season.

“Ashton will give us the ability to extend pressure full court and help us to force more turnovers this year, while adding a terrific shooter to the perimeter” the Limestone coach said.
