Fund raisers
The Gaffney Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., will have a yard sale Saturday, July 31, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Craft and scrapbooking items will be for sale along with clothes, shoes and odds and ends. The Blacksburg Rotary Club will be selling barbecue plates at the center beginning at 11 a.m. Plates will be $7 and include barbecue pork, bun, potato wedges, regular or barbecue slaw, dessert and tea. All proceeds will go to provide services for Cherokee County senior adults. For more info or to place an order for barbecue plates, call 864-489-3868.
Support group
A Celebrate Recovery support group, a 12- step Christ-centered program, is held on Fridays at 6 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church in Blacksburg. Call 864-839-6643, for information.
American Volunteer
voting ends Aug. 1
The polls will close on August 1 for voting in the 2010 American Volunteer Contest sponsored by the American Association of Meals on Wheels. Mickey Harmon, a volunteer with Cherokee County Meals on Wheels, is one of 17 contestants vying for the honor. The winner will receive MOWAA’s annual Jody Tepedino Nicholo Award and his/her nominating MOW program will receive $1,000. Help Cherokee County Meals on Wheels win the $1,000 prize by going to www.mowaa. org, viewing the video and voting for Harmon.

Revival services will be held at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, 1809 Old Post Road, beginning with homecoming services Aug. 1 at 2:30 p.m. Speaker will be the Rev. Michael Golden, pastor of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church. Services will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 2-5. Guest evangelist will be the Rev. Rodney James, pastor of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Bishopville.
Senior Center

“Granny’s Closet” is now open at the Gaffney Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Everyone is invited to come in and browse. There are cones of thread for sale in a variety of colors for $1 a bag. The closet accepts donations of clothes, shoes, kitchen items, pictures, toys, furniture, etc. Tax receipts will be given for donations and the center will come pick up items if necessary. The center will also sell Avon as a fundraiser. Call Leslie for more information or to receive a brochure. All money raised will benefit senior adults in Cherokee County. Descendants of the late Rachel Baxter and Wright Byers will have their annual family reunion Saturday, Aug. 14, from 4-7 p.m. at Thickety Mountain Baptist Association Building. Events will conclude Sunday, Aug. 15, at 10 a.m. at Concord Baptist Church.
