Election commission changes reporting method
Election Commission Chairman Suzannne Turner issued the following statement about the upcoming election:
Due to lack of space in the election office, beginning on Aug. 10, 2010, with the City of Gaffney, Town of Blacksburg and Cherokee County School Board of Trustees election, the Cherokee County Election Commission will begin reporting results in a different manner.
Results from Cherokee County elections will be posted OUTSIDE the Election Commission Office at 118 Administrative Drive. We will post the cumulative totals throughout the night on a board outside the office. At the end of the night, we will run any reports that the media or public request. We have contacted the State Election Commission in Columbia to approve this method of reporting the election totals.
One representative from the Democratic Party, the Republican Party and the media will be allowed inside the building. The media will rotate turns at the elections. Please do not ask for exceptions!
Our 33 poll managers must return 145 machines, supplies, communication packs and materials to our office on election night. They have complained about the lack of space and the confusion inside the office. They have worked a very long day and they are ready to return their machines and supplies and leave for the day. At times, it is very loud and disorderly inside the building, which causes a delay in receiving their supplies. These conditions are not conducive for tabulating the results and receiving the machines and materials. We hope that this will alleviate this concern. Our workers must have space to work in an orderly and quiet place without distractions.
Cumulative results will be posted on a board in the parking lot. If you need other results, we will run these at the end of the election night tabulation process.
