Rising sixth graders at Gaffney Middle School are invited to attend “Take a Look at Gaffney Middle” on Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 9:30-11 a.m. The event is being held to help sixth grade students feel at ease about starting school at Gaffney Middle School.

Students will meet some of the staff members, tour the building, follow a mock schedule, practice using lockers, and have questions answered.

Sixth grade students should have their parents drop them off at the Chandler Drive entrance between 8:50 and 9 a.m. Staff members will be outside to greet the students and direct them to the cafeteria.

Parents should pick up their children by the Chandler Drive entrance at 11 a.m.

Gaffney Middle will host a sixth grade general orientation for students and parents on August 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. It is hoped students and their parents will plan to attend both events.

BHS Registration

9th Grade Orientation will be held at Blacksburg High School in the auditorium on Thursday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m. All 9th grade students and their parents need to be present. Schedules will be given out to all 9th grade students after the mandatory assembly at 6 p.m. Parents and students may tour the building and meet the teachers until 7 p.m.

Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 may pick up their class schedules in the main office on August 10 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Parents may sign up for a BHS PowerSchool login, pay lunch monies, pay the $20 activity fee, order a yearbook and join the school’s PTO during orientation.

Parking Information: Students wishing to park at BHS must have the following with them when they purchase their parking pass : Drivers license (no permit); Vehicle registration, $20; and must have completed the “Alive at 25” program.

GHS Registration

Registration will be held in the cafeteria from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on the following days:

Seniors: Monday, Aug. 2

Juniors: Tuesday, Aug. 3

Sophomores: Wednesday, Aug. 4

Freshmen: Thursday, Aug. 5

Make-up registration for all grades will be held Monday, Aug. 9.

Driving and riding permits for Cherokee Technology Center will be made at Cherokee Technology Center for the 2010-2011 school year beginning August 2. A student must have a driving/ riding permit to drive or ride in a private vehicle between Gaffney High School or Blacksburg High School and Cherokee Technology Center. These permits are good for one year and must be made annually.

Students can have permits signed for and ID’s made between 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. each day beginning on August 2. ID’s cannot be made unless a parent comes with the student or before the student comes in.

Parents take note: A student must have the permit in advance to drive or ride in a private vehicle between schools. The cost is $5 before school starts and $6 after school begins.

Students should bring their class schedule with them.

Twelfth grade and 11th grade homeroom students may ride or drive in private vehicles once parents have come in to sign permission forms. Tenth grade homeroom students may ride only after parents have come in to sign permission forms; and ninth grade students must ride the bus.

Free and reduced price meal applications for the 2010-2011 school year are now available. Every household is encouraged to apply. You only need to fill out one application per household.
