City officials found out it takes more than just coming up with the money to pay for two new fire engines.

According to state law, it also requires passage of an ordinance to finance the purchase.

Gaffney City Council did just that on Monday, executing an ordinance to lease/purchase two fire trucks in an amount not to exceed $475,000.

In May, city officials announced they had reached a deal to purchase two used Pierce “Enforcer” fire trucks from a Houston, Texas fire department at a total cost of $418,000.

The purchase allows the city to dispose of two older fire trucks, including a 1990 Pierce Arrow engine and a 2002 American LaFrance engine.

Taylor has said the purchase of the two fire trucks should address the city’s fire trucks need until 2016.

The city should pick up the two fire engines in late September or early October.
