Gunmen fire into houses
Gunshots rang out multiple times early Thursday when bullets were fired into two city homes.
No arrests had been reported by the Gaffney Police Department as of Thursday afternoon, though both cases remained under investigation.
Police Captain of Detectives Chris Skinner was able to confirm that investigators believe the incidents are related.
The first began at about 2 a.m. when a 20-year-old Broad Street man allegedly was approached by another man who attempted to start an altercation inside a Birnie Street bar, according to a police report.
The 20-year-old told police he tried to get away from the situation and drove away but claimed the other man then pursued him in a blue sport utility vehicle and began firing gunshots at him, striking his vehicle in the trunk and rear window. Additional gunshots were reported as the man attempted to continue driving away. The man in the sport utility vehicle then allegedly drove to the 20-year-old man’s home in the 300 block of Broad Street and fired several gunshots into the home.
Police said they found bullet holes in the front screen and porch as well as interior damage to a curio cabinet and walls. Police said they also found a deformed slug on the home’s living room floor.
Just three hours later, police were summoned to the 500 block of West Rutledge Avenue, where a 28-year-old woman was awakened from her sleep by the sound of gunshots and breaking glass.
Police found nine bullet holes in the home and recovered several 9 mmcaliber shell casings from the roadway in front of the home.
No injuries were reported. Police were given the names of suspects in both cases.
