Roy F. Roddy Jr.
Roy F. Roddy Jr. of 1101 Lane Creek Circle, Bishop, Ga., died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at home after a long and courageous battle against cancer.
Born Sept. 21, 1950, in Greenville, he was the youngest child of the late Roy F. and Bess Lipscomb Roddy.
Roy was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School in Greenville, North Greenville College, where he served as SGA vice-president, and of Mars Hill College. After graduation, he began his career as a pharmaceutical representative, working with several companies including Russ Pharmaceuticals; Cebert; and Glaxo, Smith, Kline.
Roy was a member of Watkinsville First United Methodist Church in Watkinsville, Ga. As grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. V.H. Lipscomb of Gaffney, he began his love of the Gaffney High Indians at an early age and followed the seasons of all teams. Roy was also a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and was able to spend his last few years living in the suburbs of Athens, Ga. Roy loved music, especially beach music, and enjoyed singing and entertaining with his gifted voice and infectious smile.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Bankston Roddy, a daughter, Lauren, and a son, Ryan, all of the home; a brother, Vic Lipscomb of Carrollton, Ga.; sisters, Marian R. Gantt of Gaffney, Sarah R. Durham of Cumming, Ga., Bess R. Andrews of Taylors and Mary Ann R. Wilson of Hoschton, Ga.; and nine nieces and nephews, including Vicki Tomlinson and Donny Gantt, both of Gaffney.
Roy was preceded in death by his brother-inlaw, Don Gantt, of Gaffney and a nephew, Stephen Wilson.
Services will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home in Bogart, Ga. An internment service will be at 3 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Greenville, S.C., conducted by the Rev. Randy Kanipe of Watkinsville, Ga., and the Rev. Bennie Littlejohn of Greenville.
