93rd annual Hopewell Day is set for Aug. 18; singing features Riverside Boys, The Hamptons

HICKORY GROVE – The Tri-Cities Community Club will sponsor the 93rd annual Hopewell Day Picnic and Gospel Singing on Wednesday, Aug. 18, at the old Hopewell Schoolhouse, located just off Hwy. 97 outside Hickory Grove.

The singing starts at 10 a.m. and featured will be the Riverside Boys from Lockhart and The Hamptons from Blacksburg. There will also be congregational singing.

For the past 38 years, the Tri-Cities group has been sponsors of the Hopewell Day event. However, in the early years, local farmers would get together and prepare the now famous Hopewell Hash in conjunction with the annual culmination of a singing school. Today there is no singing school but the cooking of the Hopewell Hash and the community gospel singing remain a tradition.

Everyone is invited to attend a day of fellowship, gospel singing and, of course, that famous Hopewell Hash. Hash will be available a the Hopewell School starting at 8:30 a.m.
