Darlington to host Mother's Day races

Darlington Raceway will retain its Mother's Day weekend date on new NASCAR schedule.

Track spokesman Jake Harris said Wednesday that the raceway will hold the Showtime Southern 500 on May 7, and a Nationwide Series event on May 6. Both are at night.

It's the sixth straight season Darlington's biggest NASCAR weekend will take place on the eve of Mother's Day.

This Saturday, the track is holding a Truck Series event, the Too Tough To Tame 200. That marks the first time since 2004 that Darlington has hosted NASCAR races on two separate weekends.

Denny Hamlin swept both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup races at Darlington last May.

NASCAR's full Sprint Cup schedule is expected to be released later this month.
