Gene Christenberry

BLACKSBURG – James Eugene “Gene” Christenberry, 62, of 819 Caldwell Road, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at his residence.

Born in York County, he was the husband of Fay Smith Christenberry and son of the late L.J. Christenberry and Lona Harmon Christenberry. He retired from Eaton after 32 years of service and was a member of Canaan United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four brothers, Johnny Christenberry and wife, Beth, of Blacksburg, Ronnie Christenberry and wife, Patti, of Clover, Charles Christenberry and wife, Liz, of McConnells and Toby Christenberry and wife, Gay Nell, of Statesville, N.C.; a sister, Midge Rhyne of Clover; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Christenberry.

Visitation was Sunday, Aug. 15, from 1-2 p.m. at Canaan United Methodist Church in Smyrna. Services immediately followed at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Larry Hyder and the Rev. Ann Parrott officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canaan United Methodist Church, “Building Fund,” 4810 Canaan Church Road, Smyrna, SC 29743.

The family will be at the residence.
