Cowpens Battlefield remembers the Revolution Park will hold several special events during August and September
Members of the S.C. Independent Rangers will give musket and rifle demonstration at Cowpens National Battlefield on Saturday, Aug. 28, and Saturday, Sept. 18.
Cowpens National Battlefield will hold several special events in August and September.
On Labor Day, Order of the Palmetto recipient Dr. Bobby Gilmer Moss will tell stories about the Revolutionary War and how it affected the soldiers and their families. This program will be on Monday, Sept. 6, in the museum at the Visitor Center from 1-3 p.m. and will be followed by a book signing.
Dr. Moss, who retired as an academic dean from Limestone College, has spent much of his life researching and writing books about Revolutionary soldiers from the Carolinas. “History can be one of the most boring subjects in the world or it can be the most exciting. It depends on how it is presented,” Dr. Moss said.
The South Carolina Independent Rangers will give musket and rifle firing demonstrations behind the Visitor Center at 10:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, and Saturday, Sept.18. The Rangers portray Revolutionary War backwoods militia and demonstrate 18th century military and civilian life in the South Carolina backcountry.
The park will have volunteers demonstrating a variety of historical, hands-on activities as part of the Sunday in the Park series at the Robert Scruggs House on Sunday, Aug. 22, and Sunday, Sept. 26, from 1:30-4 p.m.
Although Cowpens National Battlefield does not charge an entrance fee, many larger national parks like Grand Canyon and Yellowstone do charge for park admittance. However, entrance fees to all of your national parks will be waived on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, in honor of Public Lands Day.
