Cecil Whitson

TAYLORS – Cecil Burnie Whitson, 87, of 515 Bramlett Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at his residence.

Born in Burnsville, N.C., he was the husband of Anna Bell Lindley Whitson for 57 years and son of the late Matt Whitson and Annie Phillips Whitson. He was a graduate of Bee Log High School and retired from Springs Industries. Mr. Whitson was a member of White Springs

Baptist Church

in Lancaster

and a lifelong deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving in World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Burnie Whitson and wife, Jan, of Easley, Gregg Whitson and wife, Cindy, of Statesville, N.C., and Dale Whitson and wife, Abigail, of Lake Murray; two daughters, Denise Lyles and husband, Jack, of Piedmont and Cecilia Sullivan and husband, John, of Taylors; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 20, from 1-3 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Gaffney. Services will immediately follow at 3 p.m. at the church with Dr. Terry Duvall officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Springs Baptist Church, “Building Fund,” 1249 Grace Ave., Lancaster, SC 29720; or Camp Creek Baptist Church, “Youth and Children’s Fund,” 1100 Camp Creek Road, Taylors, SC 29687; or North Greenville University “McCauley Scholarship Fund,” P.O. Box 1892, Tigerville, SC 28688.
