Interim superintendent on the way out?
Contacted at home Sunday afternoon, Bagwell said she was informed by several school board members this week about their plans to name Page McCraw as the new interim superintendent. McCraw has been the Director of High School Programs for several years and is a former director at the Cherokee Technology Center.
Bagwell was appointed interim superintendent in March after Cherokee County superintendent Dr. Bill James retired with a couple of months left in the 2009-2010 school year.
At the June 14 meeting, the school board voted unanimously to approve a motion by board member Cheryll Smith to appoint Bagwell as interim superintendent for the 2010-2011 school year. The school board voted to immediately begin a search for a permanent superintendent.
“At this point, I have no plans to apply should the superintendent position be posted,” Bagwell said.
The school board will meet today (Monday) at 6 p.m. in executive session with its attorneys in the district office. The closed door meeting is to receive legal advice regarding pending and potential lawsuit claims against the district, contractual matters and personnel matters, according to an agenda sent to the media.
The agenda does not state specifically what issues will be discussed.
Cherokee County School Board Chairman Donnie Lee Smith did not return messages at home seeking comment.
The meeting follows the Aug. 10 election of new school board members Alan McEntire and Ron Garner and the re-election of school trustees Barry Bailey and Mike Ellis.
