Ruby Howard

SMYRNA – Ruby Carroll Howard, 78, of 2281 Orchard Road, passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at her home.

Born in Blacksburg, Mrs. Howard was the wife of Nelson Howard of the home and daughter of the late Morris Vernon Carroll and the late Lucille Odessa Terry Stewart. She worked as a knitter in textiles and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Tony Howard of Fort Mill, Charles Howard of West Columbia, Vernon Lee Ruppe and wife, Barbara, of Smyrna, and Charles Keith Ruppe and wife, Lisa, of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Janet Loretta White and husband, Jeff, and Melba Juanita Carroll and husband, Keith, all of Grover; eight brothers, Bobby Joe Bates, Lawton Bates, both of Augusta, Ga., Sonny Bates of Gaffney, Elmer Carroll of Grover, E.M. Carroll, J.C. Carroll, Ernest Carroll, and Morris Dean Carroll, all of Blacksburg; a sister, Elsie Mae Martin of Blacksburg; nine grandchildren and 20 greatgrandchildren.

Services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m. at Smyrna Baptist Church with the Revs. Todd Justice, Jerry Allison and Tim Osment officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 23, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary.
