Community hit by rash of burglaries
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reported a rash of burglaries in the Goucher community over the weekend.
Storage buildings were targeted in three of the incidents, which occurred on Goucher School Road, while two neighboring homes were targeted on Upton Road, located just a few miles away, according to police reports.
One incident occurred in the 900 block of Goucher School Road between 8 a.m. Aug. 26 and 11 a.m. Aug. 28, according to one report. A thief or thieves removed a lock from a storage building and stole eight fishing rods, a leaf blower and a weed trimmer valued at a combined $700.
Another incident occurred in the 800 block of Goucher School Road between 5 p.m. Aug. 27 and 3 p.m. Aug. 28, police reported. A thief or thieves removed a lock from a storage building and took two 25-foot electric cords valued at $30. The electrical cords were black in color with yellow plugs.
A third break-in was discovered in the 700 block of Goucher School Road on Aug. 28. Police said someone took a roll of aluminum wire valued at $75 from a storage building.
Several guns were reported stolen following the discovery of burglaries on Aug. 27 at two homes on Upton Road, both of them in the 2100 block.
According to incident reports in those cases, some- one forced entry to the two homes between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Aug. 27.
A 12-gauge shotgun, jewelry and a lock box valued at a combined $600 were taken from one home, while a .22- caliber Mossburg rifle and .38-caliber Ruger pistol valued at a combined $500 were taken from the second home.
There was no immediate word from police if the incidents on Goucher School Road and Upton Road were related.
