The much-anticipated exterior doors for the city’s visitors and visual arts center have arrived, but they won’t be opening wide for visitors just yet.

Although the doors have been installed, the city will stick to its time line to open the $1 million renovated building in late September, according to Gaffney Administrator James Taylor.

“The doors came in earlier than expected but we aren’t going to alter the opening date,“ Taylor said.

The doors were special ordered to match the color of the window trim.

Taylor said the city also wants the landscape company to replace a couple of trees that didn’t survive the hot summer before the official grand opening occurs.

City officials had hoped to have the center ready to open earlier this summer but delays changed those plans. City leaders, though, have noted the new opening date is still months earlier than the original projected late November opening.
