Edith Morgan
Edith Neal Morgan, 91, of 211 Cleveland Ave., Grover, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at her residence.
Born in Cherokee County on Jan. 15, 1919, she was the widow of Louis Thurmond Morgan and daughter of the late Theodore Livingston and Edna Bolin Neal.
Surviving are her children, Vernon E. Morgan and fiancĂ©e, Charlotte Adams, of Gaffney, Larry N. “Buzz” Morgan of North Myrtle Beach, Janis M. Byars of Blacksburg and Phyllis M. Coyle and husband, David, of Gaffney; her grandchildren, Brandon Morgan and wife, Jill, of Spartanburg, Melissa D. “Sissy” Morgan of Gastonia, N.C., Neal Morgan and wife, Sylvia, of Webster, N.C., and Carmen B. Myrick and husband, Richard, of Clover; and great-grandchildren, Kathleen Morgan and Peyton Myrick.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Vardell L. Neal and Robert E. Neal, and her sisters, Lucille N. Shuster, Ola N. Carleton, Frances N. Borders and Mary Catherine Neal.
Edith was a lifelong member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon, taught Sunday School for 30 years, sang in the choir 50 years and provided flower arrangements from her garden for many years. She truly loved her Lord and showed it in many ways through her giving to her church.
She retired after many years from the Kings Mountain School System, where she became an instant friend to children. She was a charter member of the Grover Woman’s Club and active in the Grover community. Edith was an avid gardener, wonderful cook, collector of “old” things and a wine maker. Her children were the most important part of her life.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Kim Haney, Linda McClain, Christina Hardin, Rose Schmidt, Sandy Shuster (Edith’s niece) and Cleveland County Hospice for all the caring and love they have shown Edith.
Services will be held Monday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harold Hutchinson and Dr. Nancy Mugford officiating. Mrs. Morgan will lie in state from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be in Grover Cemetery.
Visitation was Sunday, Aug. 29, from 6-8 p.m. at the residence.
