Mall has new name, new owner
New signage will be the only tangible change to the popular local outlet mall.
That was the message from spokesperson Michele Rothstein following Tuesday’s announcement that Baltimore-based Prime Outlets is now part of the Simon Property Group Inc.
“The bottom line is that it (the outlet mall) does great and there are a lot of great shops there,” Rothstein said. “If you loved shopping there yesterday, you’ll love shopping there today.”
Rothstein said the mall will be changing its name to Gaffney Premium Outlets. Premium Outlets is the outlet center subsidiary of Simon Property Group Inc. Temporary signage, with the name change, will be going up in the coming days. Permanent signs will be added later, she said.
Patricia Byrd, the manager of the mall, will be staying on, Rothstein added.
The deal, valued at about $2.3 billion including the assumption of debt and preferred stock, adds 21 outlet centers to Simon’s portfolio. Simon Property Group is the nation’s largest mall owner with 323 malls and shopping centers.
“We are very excited to be the new owner,” Rothstein said. “The Prime portfolio is excellent and the Gaffney mall is an exciting beautiful center.”
Spoken like a true outlet shopper enthusiast, Rothstein concluded by promoting Premium’s VIP shopping and gift cards.
“We have a big Labor Day sale coming,” she said.
