ACS offering beauty sessions for local cancer patients

The American Cancer Society and Upstate Carolina Medical Center are partnering to launch free Look Good...Feel Better sessions for cancer patients in the Upstate area.

Sessions are scheduled for Sept. 20 and Nov. 15 from 10 a.m.-noon at Upstate Carolina Medical Center, 1530 N. Limestone St. The sessions are led by trained volunteer cosmetologists Amy Ward, Jennifer Wright, Jessica Kitchens and Kim Cash who will teach women to deal with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Participants also receive a free, high-end beauty supply kit specific to their skin tone.

To reserve a spot in one of the sessions, patients may contact program coordinator Malagni Mardis at 864-490- 5273. In addition to the 2010 sessions, the program will be offered on each third Monday of every month in 2011, starting in January.

Since 1989, Look Good... Feel Better has helped improve the quality of life of more than 550,000 cancer survivors through its free services. The program is carried out through a collaboration between the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the National Cosmetology Association.
