Sue Spurrier Gaffney
Sue Hemby Spurrier Gaffney, 75, of 120 Ridgeway Road, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Born in Charlotte, N.C., she was the wife of John F. Gaffney Sr. and daughter of the late John S. Spurrier and Lena Biggers Spurrier. She was a graduate of Limestone College and a member of Buford Street United Methodist Church, where she served as an administrative assistant for 30 years. She was also a choir member and former superintendent of the Sunday School Department. Mrs. Gaffney was also a member of the Tuesday Bridge Club. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, caregiver and friend.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, John F. Gaffney Jr. of Gaffney, James M. Gaffney Sr. and wife, Julie, of Greenville, and Jeffrey S. Gaffney and wife, Rhonda, of Spartanburg; a daughter, Julie G. Bosworth and husband, Allen, of Greenville; a sister, Carol S. Wiegmann and husband, Richard A., of Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren, Katie Gaffney, Joy Gaffney, Michael Gaffney, Clare Gaffney, Jack Gaffney and McGee Bosworth; two nephews, Hack Wiegmann and wife, Katie, of Alexandria, Va., and Brad Wiegmann and wife, Theresa, of Washington, D.C.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 3 p.m. at Buford Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph James and the Rev. J. Leon Newton officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
