Strickland survives
first cutdown day
After the first mandatory cut, former Gaffney High and Wofford standout Andy Strickland is still fighting for a roster spot on the Attanta Falcons.
The Falcons on Tuesday made two roster moves to reduce their roster to the NFL mandated number of 75 players by cutting safety Matt Giordano and injured defensive tackle Thomas Johnson.
The Falcons must reduce their roster to 53 players by Saturday. Atlanta may establish a practice squad of up to eight players on Sunday.
Heisman winner
sidelined
Mark Ingram's run for a second Heisman Trophy has been put on hold, and possibly even derailed, before the Alabama tailback had a chance to gain a single yard.
Ingram will miss No. 1 Alabama's opener against San Jose State after injuring his left knee late in practice Monday, coach Nick Saban said Tuesday.
Saban said in a statement the star tailback had an arthroscopic procedure and should make a full recovery in a “relatively short time.”
