Wideout putting up big numbers on and off the field

When asked if Gaffney wide receiver Quinshad Davis’ hot start has helped his stock with college recruiters, Gaffney coach Dan Jones walks to a shelf near his desk and holds up a couple of white envelopes addressed to Davis.

The top letter is from Duke University, while the other is from Princeton University, an Ivy League school.

Why is Davis garnering interest from two of the most respected academic institutions in the country?

The answer is simple. The junior is doing the job both on and off the field, having already qualified academically for college.

It’s likely Davis will continue to garner interest from elite colleges, both academically and athletically if he continues on his present pace. Competing against one of the top secondaries in the state this past Friday, Davis caught six passes for 101 yards and a touchdown in the Indians’ 21-12 loss to defending state champion Dorman.

After two games, Davis leads the team in receptions with 12 for 212 yards, an average of nearly 18 yards a catch. Khris Brown is next in receptions with five.

Davis also leads the team in touchdowns with three.

“He’s continues to perform for us. He’s been a consistent performer for us,” Gaffney offensive coordinator Donnie Littlejohn said. “He’s also emerging as a team leader.” Quinshad Davis
