Architects submit paperwork for county complex project
The county expects architectural/ engineering firms to respond favorably to its Request for Qualifications for the county’s proposed administration complex.
Last month, Cherokee County Interim Administrator Ben Clary identified three local architectural/ engineering firms for the project. They are McMillian Pacdan Smith Architecture, Craig Gauden & Davis and Agnew Rincon Architects.
All three firms are expected to submit packages detailing their qualifications for the job, Cherokee County Assistant Administrator Holland Belue said.
The packages are expected to be hand-delivered by today’s 2 p.m. deadline.
Although Belue said the firms “are equally qualified,” the county is most familiar with McMillian Pacdan Smith Architecture, which has worked with the county on other projects.
Another firm has local ties.
In addition to serving as the project architect for the Greer Municipal Complex, Craig, Gaulden & Davis was the project architect for the Gaffney City Hall project.
Cherokee County Council will review the qualifications at its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, Sept. 7, but Belue said he doubts council will hire a firm at that time.
The proposed facility will be built on the former 17-acre Milliken plant site on Railroad Avenue.
County leaders have said it’s a good time to move forward on the project because construction costs and interest rates are down.
