Gaffney police investigators were continuing their probe Thursday into a Monday night shooting incident that sent a 17-year-old to the hospital.

No charges had been filed against anyone as of Thursday, but Gaffney Police Chief Rick Turner confirmed investigators are mulling their options.

“We’re gathering up the names and addresses of everyone who was there,” Chief Turner said. “We are looking into charges, possibly, on all the instigators of the incident.”

The shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Monday in the 800 block of Cherokee Avenue. In a written police report released the morning after the shooting, police said they received conflicting statements about what exactly happened.

A group of people in a parking lot was arguing with the 17-year-old and began throwing rocks towards his home, according to one statement, before a popping noise was heard and the teen was struck by a bullet.

The teen suffered a gunshot wound about three inches above the mid-line of his chest, according to the police report. He was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The teen, who told police he did not know who fired the shot, subsequently was released from the hospital.
