The pastor of an area church found something surprising on the church’s doorstep on Sept. 3 — but it wasn’t a bundle of joy.
According to the Gaffney Police Department, someone left a gun on the doorstep of New Horizons Church on East Floyd Baker Boulevard. The .380 caliber Hi-Point handgun was left on the church’s doorstep sometime before 1 a.m. Sept. 3. The gun was unloaded. There was no immediate word from police about where the gun might have come from or who is the registered owner.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of more than $2,000 in property from Blacksburg Primary School.
According to a police report, the thefts occurred between 9 a.m. Aug. 26 and 4 p.m. Aug. 29, while the school was closed for the clean-up of mold. Police did not list or describe the property stolen from the school in the report that was made public on Sept. 3. The principal of Blacksburg Primary could not be reached Sept. 3 for additional information.
The Gaffney Police Department was asked to investigate the possibility that an 18-year-old city man had sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl.
A complaint by the girl’s mother was filed with city police on Sept. 2 after the teenager’s mother reported her suspicions. There was no immediate word from police on Sept. 3 if the report was founded.
Several vehicles parked at the Prime Outlets — Gaffney were broken into on Sept. 2.
According to the Gaffney Police Department, one of the cars was parked outside of the Rug and Home Outlet between 6:30 p.m. and 7:12 p.m. when someone smashed the rear window of the 2007 Toyota to gain entry. The thief or thieves took an HP-brand laptop computer in a black-colored soft case that was on the rear seat. Theft and damage losses were estimated at $1,000.
A second vehicle parked at the outlet mall was broken into between 6:15 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. Police said someone entered a 2002 Subaru and took a Garmin-brand Nuvi 265T satellite navigation unit that was mounted to the vehicle’s windshield and a pinkcolored Sony digital camera from the vehicle’s glove box. The electronics were valued at $331.
A moped was reported stolen from the 500 block of Oakland Avenue on Sept. 2.
According to the Gaffney Police Department, someone took a blue-colored 50 cc moped of unknown make between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. It was valued at $200.
About $300 in vandalism was reported after someone damaged a car parked on King Street.
According to the Gaffney Police Department, someone spray painted and scratched a 1999 Saturn parked in the 100 block between 8 p.m. Sept. 1 and 8:10 a.m. Sept. 2.
