BLACKSBURG – Pearl Hambright Hughey, 83, of 1072 Ninety-Nine Island Road, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at home, surrounded by family and friends.

She was the widow of Edward L. Hughey and daughter of the late James Albert and Ora Peeler Hambright.

She was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church and retired from Hamrick Mills.

She is survived by a son, Eddie D. Hughey and wife, Pat; three daughters, Penny H. Patterson and husband, Mark, Tillie H. Cook and husband, Jim, and Jill Hughey-Price and husband, Joel; six grandchildren, Juanita H. Humphries and husband, Todd, Timmy Dale Hughey, Tammy Daggerhart, Holly P. Nix and husband, Mark, Joe H. Patterson and wife, Jessica, Jennifer W. Nix and husband, Michael, and Ryan Sizemore; seven great-grandchildren, Grayson Nix, Christian Nix, Margaret Nix, Jake Patterson, Emma Patterson, Abigail Nix and Addison Nix; a brother, Davis Hambright; two sisters, Ruth Destaffno and Irene Gold; and many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Roger Bernard Hughey; two brothers, Kyrk Hambright and George Hambright; and two sisters, Ruby Manning and Artie Owens.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 6-8 p.m. at Nazareth Baptist Church, 1156 Ninety- Nine Island Road.

At other times, they will be at the home of her son, Eddie, 1052 Ninety-Nine Island Road, Blacksburg.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, Sept. 9, at 3 p.m. at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jamie Billings and Rick Martin officiating. Burial will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Timmy Dale Hughey, Joe H. Patterson, Ryan Sizemore, Mark Nix, Michael Nix and Jimmy Hambright.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cleve Hambright, Knox Hambright, Wayne Peterson, Harry D. Martin, Bruce Martin, and life and former deacons of Nazareth Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Nazareth Baptist Church, Hospice Care of South Carolina, or CKC Fire Department.

The family would like to thank all of the Nazareth Baptist Church family, neighbors and friends who have shown such love and support, prayed, sent cards, cooked and visited.
