Reunion will be at historic Mulberry Methodist Church
Larry B. Littlejohn, left, president of the Littlejohn Reunion, is shown with Rep. Harold Mitchell (D-Spartanburg), Hilliard Littlejohn and Carl West during (l-r) unveiling ceremonies of the historical marker at Mulberry Church last April.
An overflow crowd attended the event last year to take part in dedicating the historical marker at the church. This year, there will be an added surprise, said Littlejohn Family Reunion president Larry B. Littlejohn.
"We dedicated the historical marker last year and had an overflow crowd," he said. "This year, there is a little surprise I want the people to see, which is an ongoing part of renovations being done.
"Last year was so emotional for me," he said. “My grandfather and two of his cousins organized this event in the early 1950s and we're still carrying on their tradition and customs just like the first day it was held.”
Everyone attending is asked to bring a well-filled basket as part of the tradition and fellowship.
Restoration work on the church and cemetery is still in progress. Cherokee Masonry is in charge of the project.
"The people at Cherokee Masonry, along with CHAPS, are to be commended for partaking in such a huge task," Littlejohn said.
(In case of rainy weather, the event will be held at the Granard Middle School Cafeteria.)
