Garland Edward Chappell Sr., 88, of 905 Spring St., husband of Cynthia Talley Chappell, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 8, 2010, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Son of the late Samuel Chappell and the late Flossie White Chappell, he was born July 27, 1922, in Nathalie, Va. He was a member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church, a World War II veteran, and retired in 1976 from Welding Swimming Pools of Hemstead, N.Y.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Chappell was preceded in death by two brothers, Felix Chappell and Charles Chappell.

Surviving in addition to his wife are eight children, Garland E. Chappell Jr., Brian Chappell, both of Spartanubrg, John Chappell, Wanda Chappell Reid, both of Gaffney, Cynthia Y. Chappell of the home, Barbara Ann Chappell, Alma Chappell, both of Alexandria, Va., and Barbara Brewer of Bronx, N.Y.; a sister, Jean Stanfield of Laurel, Md.; eight grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; three sisters in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.

The family is at the residence, 905 Spring St.
