Lady Indians top Chapman; lose close match to Greenville
The Gaffney High volleyball team split a pair of matches on Tuesday, losing to Greenville in two close games and beating Chapman, 2-1.
Against Greenville, the Lady Indians played well but couldn’t win the clutch points down the stretch, losing 24-26, 24- 26.
In the match versus Chapman, the Lady Indians lost the first game, 25-16, before regrouping to win the next two games, 25-21, 25- 20.
Gaffney coach Vickie Parks praised a number of players.
“Mary Katherine Benson served and set well tonight,” Parks said. “She has proven she can handle the pressure at the back line. Scotty Kay Auton and Tylar Cottrell completed some keys blocks. (Eigth-grader) Payton Duncan made some game changing plays, hitting from the outside hitters position as well as passing and serving. She was just an all around exceptional player tonight.”
“The girls are playing better as a team and I hope we can keep improving all the way up to our region play which we have coming up in a couple of weeks.” Parks added.
In jayvee action on Tuesday, Gaffney topped Chapman, 16-25, 25-16, 15- 7; and beat Greenville to two games, 25-21, 25-15.
“Amy Medley is doing a great job with them,” Parks said.
