John Maddox

John R. Maddox, of 10 Brittany Dr., Greenville, departed for his heavenly home on July 16, 2011.

The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was the son of the late W. H. (Bill) and Jeanne G. Maddox of Gaffney.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, he served for 33 years with the U.S. Postal Service, from which he retired.

John was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, and a member of the Agape Sunday School Class, as well as a participant in Couple’s Circle #12 and the Men’s Prayer Breakfast. He was also a past Treasurer of First Presbyterian Church.

He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Roberta M. Maddox; his daughter, Claudia (Sam) Goodwin; and two grandsons, Andrew and Timothy Goodwin, all of Winter Garden, Fla.; an adopted son, Alan Graham; an adopted daughter, Pamela Patrick Cole; and a long time loving friend, Phyllis Crist.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. in the Parlor at First Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Washington St., Greenville, SC 29601, to be followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the Harper Chapel at First Presbyterian.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pastoral Visitation Ministry of First Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Washington St., Greenville, SC 29601.
