By SCOTT POWELL Ledger Staff Writer spowell@gaffneyledger.com

Dr. Angela Bain has withdrawn as a finalist for the Cherokee County superintendent job.

School board chairman Donnie Lee Smith confirmed Bain’s decision.

Bain, the chief human resources officer in Lexington and Richland District 5, visited Cherokee County schools as a superintendent finalist Jan. 26-27.

Smith indicated the decision was a difficult one for Bain, who openly spoke about her interest in becoming a superintendent.

“I think she was torn,” Smith said.

The Cherokee County School Board will hold a called meeting today (Wednesday) at 6 p.m. in the district office.

School trustees will discuss the finalists and conduct their final interview in executive session with Spartanburg District 2 Assistant Superintendent Dr. Quincie Moore.

The other remaining finalists are Granard Middle School Principal Dr. Mark Bunch and Stafford County (Va.) Assistant Superintendent Dr. Chris Quinn.
