Dale Welch. ffi Shady Grove Baptist Church will celebrate Black History Month with special “Moments in History” each Sunday in February during the 11 a.m. worship service. The Sunday School ministry will coordinate the presentations and a different Sunday School Class, including the Adult, Teen-Scene, Intermediate, Primary, and Beginners, will be the presenters. The programs will feature skits, music, dance, PowerPoint and other multimedia. Timothy L. Hunter as pastor of Island Creek Baptist Church, 2112 Battleground Road, Cowpens, will be held Sunday, Feb. 12, at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be Dr. A.L. Brackett, pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Gaffney, and St. Paul Baptist Church, Union. ffi Mt. Olive Baptist Churchwill have a “Ministering in Love/Women in Red Program” at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12. Speaker will be Minister Mae Cureton of First Baptist Church, Earl, N.C. ffi The Youth Choir of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a special program Sunday, Feb. 12, at 4 p.m. ffi The Thickety Mountain Baptist Associational Choir will rehearse Monday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church for the Association Revival thatwill be held March 12- 15. ffi The Lillian Spears and Vinnie Byers missionary circles of Bethel Baptist Church will sponsor “A Celebration of Love and Happiness” on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 5 p.m. in the church dining hall. Speaker will be the Rev. Courtney Mills, pastor of Mikes Creek Baptist Church. Donations accepted. ffi Living by Faith of Forest City, N.C., will sing Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Freedom Baptist Church, 720 Bill Lattimore Road, Chesnee, at 6 p.m. ffi The YWA Ministry of Mikes Creek Baptist Church will host its annual program Sunday, Feb. 12, at 10 a.m. Speaker will be Shanese Dawkins, president of the Thickety Mountain Baptist Association YWA Ministries. ffi Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, will host its third Saturday night singing on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. Guests will be The Riverside Boys and The Hamptons. ffi Divine Glory Ministries, 709 Mullinax Circle, Kings Creek, will have a gospel singing Saturday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m. featuring New Restruction. The church is the old Kings Creek Church of God, located on Hwy. 5 towards York.
Tax help ffi The Gaffney Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., will be the IRS site for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). Anyone whose total gross income is $50,000 or less and has a "simple" return can take advantage of this program. Taxes are prepared every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. by appointment only. Fund raisers ffi A poor man’s lunch will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, from11:30 a.m. until at Broad River Baptist Church in Blacksburg. The menu includes pinto beans, slaw, cornbread and drink. Cost is $5 a plate. Baked goods will be for sale. The event, sponsored by Buffalo and Broad River Baptist churches, is a fund raiser to help pay medical expenses for 6-year-old Skylar Byars, a stem cell patient atCharlestonMedical Center.
ffi Buford Street United Methodist Church will sponsor a soup lunch each Monday in February from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The menu includes soup (choice of three), cornbread, dessert, tea or water for $6. Lunchwill be served in the Family Life Center and you can eat-in or take out. ffi Sisters and Brothers Committed to the Community will have a fish fry and hot dog sale Friday, Feb. 10, from8 a.m.-4 p.m. and a fish fry, sausage dog and hot dog sale Saturday, Feb. 11, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Both events will be at 608 S. Oscar Fuller, a consultant with Cherokee 2020, will present the group's findings on education and other matters concerning Cherokee County. ffi Gaffney Branch AAUW (American Association of University Women) will meet Monday, Feb. 13, at 12 p.m. at House of Pizza on E. Floyd Baker Blvd. Hazel Lovelace Hubbard will present the program and talk about “Cherokee 2020,” the new designation for the Cherokee County Community Indicators Project.
