First-year Gaffney High golf coach Brandon Coggins might not be sure who will make up his six-man varsity roster. But he sure knows who will form the nucleus of the 2012 squad.

“Trey Taylor, E.J. Blanton and Cabrick Waters will be our leaders,” Coggins said. “We will be a young team. Those three are the oldest and I will be depending on them.”

Coggins, who enjoyed a standout career at Gaffney High and North Greenville, said his familiarity with his players’ games is a plus.

“I’m not much older and I know a lot about their games, so I feel like I can help them,” Coggins said.

This year’s schedule is topheavy with tournaments.

“I’ve included more tournaments because I feel like that playing (tournament) competition is how you get better,” Coggins said.
